How to play truth or dare with the wheel

  1. The wheel is ready with Truth, Dare and You choose. Keep it, or load the dares list, the truths list or the kids' version.
  2. On your turn, spin the wheel to find out whether you get a truth or a dare.
  3. The group gives you a dare or asks you a question, using the ideas on this page. You can always pass.
  4. Playing on separate phones? Tap “Send my wheel” and share the link by WhatsApp, text message or a copied link.

How truth or dare works

You need at least three players, sitting in a circle or around a table. On your turn, you pick either a truth, a question you answer honestly, or a dare, a small challenge you do right away. The other players come up with the question or the dare, then it’s the next person’s turn.

The wheel takes the stalling out of it: it decides for you. Land on “You choose” and the call is yours, which keeps a little suspense. A few house rules so everyone has a good time:

  • You can always pass, with no explanation and no penalty dare.
  • A truth gets a one- or two-sentence answer, with no follow-up grilling.
  • A dare takes a few seconds and happens right where you are: no touching anyone, nothing to eat or drink, nobody else’s phone, and nothing that costs money.
  • What’s said in the game stays in the game: nobody uses it to tease someone later.

Two ways to play with the wheel

The wheel picks, the group asks. This is the easiest way. Keep the Truth / Dare wheel, everyone spins on their turn, and the others give a dare or ask a question, borrowing from the lists below.

The wheel picks everything. Load the “Quick dares” or “Easy truths” list at the top of the page, and the wheel draws the actual dare or question. You can also mix both lists into one wheel and add your own. Writing a slice twice gives it two shares of the wheel, so twice the chance of coming up.

Either way, the winning slice is drawn with your browser’s secure random generator before the wheel starts turning, so nobody can aim for one. To play apart, tap “Send my wheel”: your friends get the same wheel by WhatsApp, text message or a copied link, and spin it on their own phones. The slices travel inside the link, nothing is stored on our server, and nobody signs up for anything.

Make it work for any group

  • With kids: load the “Kids' version,” a mix of dares that get them moving and questions about the things they love. A grown-up can read the slices out loud for little ones.
  • With family: memory questions work great across generations. Grandparents tell stories, and kids hear ones they’ve never heard before. It’s a nice one for Thanksgiving or a family reunion.
  • With coworkers: stick to truths about tastes and dreams (travel, movies, hidden talents) and calm dares you can do from your chair. It makes an easy icebreaker at the start of a team meeting.
  • With friends: add your inside jokes, shared memories and silly challenges, while keeping the spirit of the game: laughing together.

More wheels to keep going

After a few rounds, the dare wheel takes over with funny dares for whoever lost the last game. For a quick decision, the yes or no wheel answers for you, and the number wheel picks a random number. Prefer building a wheel from scratch? The spin the wheel page takes any ideas you like. To decide who goes first, draw a random order, and find every other picker on the Buzzloo home page.

Frequently asked questions

How do you play truth or dare with a wheel?

On your turn, spin the wheel. On “Dare,” you do a small challenge; on “Truth,” you answer a question honestly; on “You choose,” it’s your call.

Can you say no in truth or dare?

Yes, always. Any player can pass with no explanation, and the next person spins.

How do you play truth or dare with kids?

Load the “Kids' version” at the top of the page: dares that get them moving, like hopping or roaring like a lion, and questions about their favorite things. Keep turns short, and have a grown-up read the slices to little ones.

Can we play with friends who aren’t in the room?

Yes: tap “Send my wheel” and share the link by WhatsApp, text message, or copy it. Everyone spins the same wheel on their own phone, no account needed, and nothing is stored on our server.

Can I get more dares than truths?

Yes: write “Dare” more times than “Truth.” Every slice is the same size, and the winning slice is drawn with your browser’s secure random generator.
